IGNITING MINISTRY IN NEW YORK CITY’S LOWER EAST SIDE NEIGHBORHOOD
THE NEED:
Kid issues include poverty, corruption, hunger, and lack of resources in natural disasters. Young people are caught in the middle of this crisis. They are looking for role models and seeking answers to their suffering and needs. Many turn to gangs or prostitution for survival.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
Kids in New York City’s Lower East Side are dealing with depression, financial instability to the point of homelessness, racism, and for some, family members who are incarcerated. They have easy access to drugs and alcohol with most parents having to work multiple jobs. 32% of students do not graduate high school on time, with over 30% of residents living below the poverty line.

THE PLAN:
Young Life’s vision is to host and help fund opportunities that attract kids from the community, such as “Girls Night Out” and “Man Up” where leaders can meet kids in small faith-sharing groups that focus on servant leadership and youth-led service projects in their neighborhood to combat the risk factors they face.
Also, they believe this will benefit YL leaders in being able to not only physically serve, but financially participate with aligned programs such as Asylum Seekers Clothing Drive, Soup Kitchen, Pop-up Pantry, and other school engagement programs where kids can be met and served tangibly. Providing resources through these programs will broaden our reach to kids and our beneficial networking with local churches and non-profit organizations.
THE NEED: $10,000
With this investment we can see our leadership base of volunteers being better supported and growing to 20, fostering relationships with more than 200 students. From here, we expect the number of kids coming to Campaigners to increase to 30. We will lead these kids to have a vision for community outreach and to bring 50 new kids to club and 50 kids to camp this summer, along with their leaders.
